The details.
Made clear.

Written to be read. If anything here is unclear, email us before you book — we would rather explain it now than argue about it later.

Plain-English terms, written by the owner. Nothing here limits your rights under your state’s consumer protection law.

Repair terms

1. Who we are

Frank Mills, trading as Shipshape Repair (“we”, “us”). We are an independent repair service. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by Apple Inc., Samsung, or any device manufacturer. We hold no manufacturer certification and we do not claim one.

2. What you are authorising

By booking a repair you authorise us to open your device and carry out the repair you selected. You confirm that you own the device or have the owner’s permission, and that it is not reported lost or stolen.

3. Back up your data first

Repairs do not normally affect your data, and we do not wipe devices. But electronics fail unpredictably, and a phone that arrives damaged may not survive the repair. You are responsible for backing up your own data. We are not liable for data loss.

4. Payment

You pay an upfront amount when you book, covering the replacement part, applicable shipping (or the travel fee for an on-site visit) and processing. The balance — our labor — is due after the repair passes testing, and for a mail-in repair, before we ship the device back. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

5. If we find additional damage

If, on inspection, we find damage that changes the scope or the price, we will stop, photograph it, and contact you with the options before doing any further work. You may approve the revised price, or ask us to return the device unrepaired. In that case you pay for any part already purchased plus return shipping (on site, the travel already made), and nothing for labor.

6. If we cannot complete the repair

You pay no labor, and we explain what we found. By mail, we return the device at no further charge. On site, we reassemble it and leave it with you. A part already purchased is not refundable if it has been fitted and removed.

7. Devices we will not accept

  • Devices with a swollen, puffy or physically damaged battery, by mail. These cannot legally be shipped. Within 50 miles of New Caney we can replace the battery at your place instead: call, text or email us to arrange it.
  • Devices reported lost or stolen. We will not return these to the sender and may report them.
  • Devices needing board-level microsoldering, or repair of the Face ID dot projector (the TrueDepth module) itself. We can replace the Face ID / proximity sensor flex cable, but we cannot re-pair Face ID, so that repair may not restore Face ID and carries a 60-day warranty.

7b. Liquid damage is sold as an assessment, not a repair

Liquid damage cannot be priced honestly in advance. Corrosion keeps spreading after a device dries, so one that works today can fail next week, and one that looks dead can come back. What you are buying is a fixed-fee assessment: teardown, ultrasonic board clean, corrosion treatment, reassembly, testing, and a written report of what we found.

  • It is not a guaranteed fix. The fee is for the work and the report, payable whether or not the device recovers.
  • There is no warranty on a liquid-damaged device. We cannot stand behind a board we did not damage and cannot fully test.
  • Treat your data as already lost. Recover it separately before sending the device; we cannot promise it will power on again.

If the device needs board-level microsoldering, we will say so in the report and point you to someone who does that work. We do not.

8. Parts we use

We use high-quality aftermarket parts unless you select a different tier. On iPhones, Apple software displays a notice in Settings for any non-genuine screen or battery, and a non-genuine screen may lose True Tone. This is manufacturer software behaviour and cannot be removed. We will tell you which part was used in your repair.

We order your part when you book. Most arrive within 4–7 days. The delivery date shown when you book is our supplier’s estimate, not a promise. If a part is delayed, we will tell you and give you the new date.

9. Our liability

We take reasonable care of every device in our possession. If we lose or damage your device while it is with us, our total liability is capped at $600 or the fair market value of the device, whichever is lower.

Default carrier coverage is only $100 per parcel, and third-party phone cover is void without signature confirmation — so we insure the return parcel and require a signature. On the way to us, a prepaid label from us carries no additional insurance. If your device is worth materially more than the cap above, tell us before you post it and we will quote the extra coverage rather than leave you underinsured.

We are not liable for loss or damage in transit to us. A prepaid label from us covers postage with no additional insurance, so contact us before mailing if you want to arrange extra coverage. If you buy your own postage, insure the parcel and add signature confirmation: any claim is then between you and your carrier.

10. Unclaimed devices

If the balance is unpaid and you do not respond for 60 days after we notify you that the repair is complete, we will treat the device as abandoned, subject to the abandoned-property rules of your state. We will contact you at least three times before that point.

11. Cancellations and refunds

We order your part when you book. If you cancel before the part is ordered, we refund everything. After that, we refund everything except the part’s cost, and we refund that too if the seller accepts the return. Once a repair is complete, the warranty below is your remedy.

12. On-site repairs

Near New Caney, we can come to you instead of you posting the device: at your home, your office or a coffee shop, anywhere within 50 miles. Everything above applies, with these differences.

  • Travel fee. It is set by the town you give when you book, and it replaces the postage and packaging in a mail-in price. The price shown before you book already includes it.
    • Within 15 miles — no travel fee
    • 15 to 30 miles — $20 travel fee
    • 30 to 50 miles — $40 travel fee
  • The visit. We order your part when you book and arrange the visit with you once it arrives. If your address turns out to be materially further than the town you gave, we contact you before anyone travels, and you may cancel for a full refund of anything paid.
  • Your device stays with you. It is never posted, so nothing on this page about shipping, parcels or transit applies.
  • Your passcode. Unlock the device for us, or give the passcode to the technician during the visit. We do not write it down.
  • Swollen batteries. Tell us before the visit if the battery is swollen, puffy or damaged, so it can be handled safely.
  • Bench-only repairs. Some repairs need bench equipment and are mail-in only. The booking page says so before you choose.
  • Warranty. It runs from the date the repair is completed.

Warranty

Length
90 days on most repairs, from the date we ship your device back (mail-in) or the date the repair is completed (on-site). A few carry a shorter term, or none at all — the Face ID / proximity sensor repair carries 60 days, and a liquid damage assessment has no warranty, because we cannot warranty a board we did not damage and cannot fully test. The exact warranty for your repair is shown with its price before you book, and again on your order.
Covers
Failure of the replacement part itself, and our workmanship on anything we disturbed during the repair
Excludes
New physical damage, liquid damage, work by anyone else afterwards, and faults unrelated to the part we replaced
How to claim
Email [email protected] with your order number and a description. If the fault is ours, we cover shipping both ways

This warranty is in addition to any rights you have under your state’s consumer protection law. Nothing here limits those rights.

Shipping policy

Sending your device to us

You arrange and pay for tracked ground shipping to us. Consider insuring the parcel for the value of the device and adding signature confirmation. Check the carrier’s coverage and exclusions before buying postage.

US carriers classify a used phone as a restricted electronic device because of its lithium battery. It must travel by ground, the outside of the box must be marked “Restricted Electronic Device” and “Surface Transportation Only”, and it must be handed to a clerk rather than dropped in a collection box. Devices with swollen or damaged batteries cannot be shipped at all; near New Caney we can replace the battery at your place instead (see on-site repairs).

Sending it back to you

Return shipping is included in every mail-in price we quote. We ship with tracking, declared value and signature confirmation, and we email you the tracking number when it leaves. Someone must be available to sign.

Where we ship

United States only. We do not currently accept international repairs.

Our address

Frank Mills
New Caney, TX
Full postal address is provided with your order confirmation, and on request by email before you book.

Please do not ship anything before booking a repair. Unexpected parcels have no order attached and we may not be able to identify the owner.

Privacy policy

What we collect

Your name, email address, phone number and shipping address (or the address we visit, for an on-site repair); the device model, the repair you requested, and the IMEI or serial number; your description of the fault; and the photographs and notes we take during the repair.

What we deliberately do not collect

  • Your passcode is never stored in our system. By mail, send it on paper in the box; on site, unlock the device for us during the visit. We use it to test the device and we do not record it anywhere.
  • We never see your card details. Payments go directly to Stripe.
  • We do not browse your personal files. We open only what is needed to test the repair — camera, phone, settings, sensors.

Why we keep repair photos

To show you the condition your device arrived in and left in, to support warranty claims, and as evidence if a payment is disputed. We keep them for 12 months and then delete them. We will not publish a photo of your device publicly without asking you first.

Who we share it with

Only the services needed to run the repair: Stripe for payment, our email provider for order emails, Shippo to create prepaid labels when included, the shipping carrier for delivery, and Cloudflare, which hosts this site and runs the model behind Rivet (below). We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers on this site.

Rivet, the chat assistant

Rivet is an AI assistant. Its replies are written by an open-source language model running on Cloudflare Workers AI, and it can be wrong. Treat its troubleshooting tips as suggestions, not a diagnosis.

  • Prices. The price card under a reply is worked out by our own price list, the same one the booking page uses. Rivet's text is checked before you see it and any price that isn't on that list is removed. The price shown at checkout is the one you pay.
  • What happens to your messages. Each message is sent to Cloudflare with the recent conversation so the model can reply. We do not keep a copy of the chat. Your browser keeps it for this tab only, and “New chat” clears it.
  • Limits. To keep Rivet free to run, each visitor can send a limited number of messages an hour. We count them with a scrambled code made from your connection, never your IP address itself, and delete the counts after two days.
  • Please don't share passwords, passcodes, card numbers or anything else sensitive in the chat.

Your choices

Email [email protected] to request a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We will keep the minimum record needed for tax and dispute purposes.

This service is intended for customers aged 18 or over.
